Submission Policies

Scope of Submissions

ESMS accept submissions related to manufacturing in the energy sector, including but not limited to:

  • Energy storage, manufacturing, materials, and device design.
  • Batteries and Critical materials mining
  • Submissions welcome from academia, startups, industry, and national labs.
  • Submissions outside these areas may be considered if they are relevant to energy-related manufacturing.

Submission Format

  • White papers, technical notes, communications, negative results, data sets
  • Title and abstract
  • Author names and affiliations
  • PDF file of the submission
  • Supporting data and/or code (if applicable), preferably with links to external repositories (e.g., GitHub, Zenodo)

Review Policy

  • Submissions are peer-reviewed by ESMS appointed editors. In addition, all submissions undergo basic screening for:
  • Relevance to ESMS’s scope
  • Offensive or harmful content
  • Pseudoscientific claims
  • Plagiarism or duplicate publication
  • ESMS reserves the right to reject or withdraw submissions that violate these guidelines.

Versioning

  • Authors may upload revised versions of their submission. All versions are:
  • Preserved and timestamped
  • Reflected in the metadata
  • Linked under a single DOI (no new DUI is issued for each version)

Publication

  • All listed authors must have made a significant contribution to the work and approved the final version for submission.
  • Authors retain full copyright and must agree to publish their work under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License (CC BY 4.0). This license permits sharing, adaptation, and redistribution with proper attribution.
  • Authors are encouraged to make data and code openly available in accordance with FAIR (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Reusable) principles. Preferred formats include external DOIs, links to GitHub/Zenodo repositories, or supplementary files with clear documentation.
  • Authors may request withdrawal of their submission at any time. Withdrawn submissions will remain publicly visible with a withdrawal notice unless the author explicitly requests full removal, subject to ESMS's discretion.
  • Authors must disclose any financial, professional, or personal conflicts of interest. Undisclosed conflicts discovered post-publication may result in withdrawal. A standard disclosure statement is recommended (e.g., “Author X has received funding from Organization Y”).

ESMS Author License and Submission Agreement

This agreement outlines the terms under which authors submit manuscripts to ESMS. By submitting a manuscript to :

  • I affirm that I am the corresponding author and have obtained all necessary permissions to submit this work on behalf of all authors.
  • I confirm that all co-authors have reviewed and approved the content of this work and its submission to ESMS.
  • I confirm that the work is original, has not been published elsewhere, and does not infringe on the intellectual property rights of any third party.
  • I grant ESMS a non-exclusive, irrevocable, worldwide license to host, display, and distribute the submission in perpetuity.
  • I retain full copyright over the work.
  • I agree to publish the work under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License (CC BY 4.0), which permits use, distribution, and reproduction in any medium, provided the original work is properly cited.
  • I understand that, upon acceptance by the moderation team, the work may be made publicly available immediately.
